With the new 2.0 era in the policy of competitive clusters, 2009 was an important year in our development. First of all, on July 6th, the French State and regional authorities renewed their trust in Lyonbiopole by signing the Performance Contract, a document that presents the cluster’s strategy, its aims, its action plan and the budget allocated for implementing these over the next three years. As well, Lyonbiopole’s Infectious Diseases Center opened on April 1st, 2009 and is now at full capacity. It hosts six research teams. This platform, one of a kind in Europe, was designed to meet the needs expressed by clusters members, in particular hosting public/private research teams and providing specialized facilities that enable innovative collaborative R&D projects in the field of infectious diseases.
Since 2005, 69 collaborative R&D projects have been accredited by Lyonbiopole, accounting for an overall investment of around € 419 million, for which € 169 million in public funding has been obtained from the French State, OSEO, regional authorities and the European Union. These results are the fruit of collective efforts. I would like to thank our public funding providers for their support and their commitment, as well as all of the members of Lyonbiopole’s Board of Directors and Technical Group, our partners, our members and the management team that assists you throughout the year in the development of your upcoming projects and collaborative ventures.
In 2010, the main objectives will be to strengthen our efforts for regarding funding and growth support of our SMBs as well as the emergence of collaborative projects and the preparation of the 3rd phase in the cluster development which should reach the creation of a real campus focused on technological innovation.

They speak about...
Lyonbiopole has played a role of consultant and booster in the development of PX’Therapeutics.
« For companies like ours, there is a “before” and “after” the Competitive Clusters. PX’Therapeutics has been supported since the beginning, from the project setup to accreditation, to signing of the Consortium Agreement. We get advice on the most suitable types of financing … Lyonbiopole is a project factory that enables companies to get funding from the French State and local authorities, which is exceptional as R&D remains immaterial for a long period of time. As well, we can be in direct contact with major pharmaceutical firms in order to build scientific and business links; before we joined the cluster, they knew very little about us. The other interest of Lyonbiopole is the "International Development Assistance Plan" built on the principle of networking, which enables us to go to a single place several times in a row to establish concrete partnerships. The Infectiology Center, another key feature of the cluster, comes just at the right time for us, as it will enable us to set up our business in Lyon and work in a facility entirely dedicated to our collaborative project with a research unit from INSERM. »
